The Return of “3”

Hey All…

So much has been going on! My apologies for not sharing more with you sooner, but it’s taken everything I’ve got to rise to meet the demands of my summer gig schedule thus far. The biggest news is that “3” performed for the first time in about 6 years on July 12th. The show was everything we could’ve imagined and more!

Intending to shake some rust in a relatively low key setting, we booked a night at our favorite dive bar (Snug Harbor). It was jam packed on a very humid evening with no AC whatsoever. You could say it was a sweat lodge in there haha. What unfolded was truly a purification of both soul and mind, as we played our hearts out for two radically different sets. The first entitled: “Kiss of the Apocalypse” was a raucous rendering of 3’s heavier rock infused material. The second set was called: “If You Dance Real Hard, You’ll See God!” performed in honor of late band members Joe Stote and Joe Cuchelo. This set showcased our groovier side complete with tons of improvisation and melodic acrobatics. It almost felt like being two different bands in the best way possible. I’m still not sure which set I enjoyed more!

We are planning another performance at Keegan Ales in Kingston, NY for August 23rd at 7 pm. Please help us spread the word and come be with us if you can!

The first step in making a “Threeunion” possible was dealing with the bass situation. The band had been on a virtual hiatus since our bassist Daniel Grimsland moved out to the west coast. Not that we had much going on at the time, as I was deeply entrenched in all my family health stuff ( Alzheimer’s, Autism and Cancer – oh my! ) It would be years before I had the capacity to bring my focus back to 3. While we were sad to see Daniel go, we were also excited for him and all the opportunities that awaited him out in California. It was the right move for his talent and his career. Recently I reached out and spoke to him about trying out a new bass player for “3.” Not only was Daniel very understanding but he was downright encouraging.

Without further ado, we’d like to welcome Chris Heitzman to the fold! A talented musician, local luminary and all around great guy, Chris is also the touring bassist for indie-psych legends Mercury Rev. Learning our catalogue is no easy endeavor, but he dove head first into the world of 3 and absolutely crushed his first performance with us at Snugs!

We are so excited for the next one at Keegans in Kingston, NY on August 23rd!

More Soon!

Love & Gratitude,

-Joey
